In Japan, your work visa belongs to you. You’re free to quit your job immediately upon getting your visa. It’s mandatory to notify immigration of changes to your employment status within 2 weeks but they’re not deporting you just because you switched jobs.

Same here. I love m Nike Free from 2018 and still wear them despite how natty they’ve become. But my wife insisted they must go, so I bought the latest version a few months back and it’s just not the same thing anymore. Why do all shoe brands have these gigantic sole cushions nowadays?

trends! barefoot running just isn't as popular anymore.
yes, i also remember seeing nike frees everywhere in the late 2000s and through the 2010s and it's my understanding it was because barefoot running was a trendy idea. and whether everyone who wore nike frees to the grocery store etc knew about barefoot running, that's why they were popular. i'm not sure if it's appropriate to say the theories are discredited, but it's clearly less popular now.
people who run seriously like that supershoes help them beat PRs, and some of that tech (bouncy foam, springy plates) has trickled down into everyday beaters. and big cushy hoka-like shoes are just comfortable.
that said there are heaps of smaller companies (vivobarefoot etc) making barefoot minimalist everyday shoes. but i don't know what people who wear those shoes wear to run in.
That's a good point. I never ran in my original Frees, but they were my goto lifting shoe. I had other shoes (Brooks Ghosts) for my running, and yet a different shoe for basketball.
Your post also reminded me of the comical toe shoes.

I've also got the ecocute but I was told that it's cheaper to just pump fresh hot water into the bath than recirculate the cooled down water. It uses less energy to pump the already boiled water into the tub than to heat it back up.
I don't see how that is possible. Either way you need the same amount of heat added to the tub. Maybe you save a little because the return pipes are not cooling the water, but otherwise the needed heat should be the same. I personally insulated all my hot water pipes which solves that worry.
Though fresh water and letting out the old will clean the water you are soaking in, which may be valuable.
The way ecocute works is that it heats water at times when electricity is cheap and stores it in a highly insulated tank. So if you’re having a soak in the evening, it’s cheaper to use the water that is already preheated at cheaper rates and stored, than to reheat it again using the expensive to peak time rates.
My rates are 36yen from 6am to 10pm and 19yen on the other end.
