We have been doing that all of recorded history and we are still here. It would take enormous effort or a moderate environment change to kill us all.

>We have been doing that all of recorded history and we are still here.

while i dont think our species will be wiped out because of it, it's a mistake to not recognize the difference in efficacy and scale that ai enables.

Didn't make it through the link but here's a Guardian article which mentions Musk's response and a link (if that's what this is?)

AI companies are making no money so a crisis might divert attention.

So if I take a picture of an AI generated image it will still vouch for it?

Yes that and and Math problems don't pay the rent.

“I have found the image of a spiral really useful, in terms of how to make sense of the fact that our era is both familiar and different,” Klein says. “The thing about a spiral is that you’re going round, but you’re not going to the same place. If the spiral is pointing down, it’s deeper, it’s tighter, it’s carrying more velocity, it’s carrying more force, it’s carrying more heat, it’s carrying more violence.”

What do you think this means?

it means what she explains it means in the article

...which is to say that the current social condition belongs to the tail end of a continuum, the trajectory of which is less important to comprehend than the so-called "jetztzeit" is, which is supposedly incomprehensible itself?

The only reason they would share this is opportunistic publicity. It serves no other purpose.

This was more of a disclosure to the US military that Anthropic has detected that various "undesirables" are using Claude to plan attacks, develop weapons, etc. and that information that shouldn't have been shared got through the safety guards:

> The finding was one of several threats outlined in the 154-page report that offered up a playbook of how U.S. adversaries are using AI in novel ways that pose serious threats to national security: developing new missiles and aggressive disinformation campaigns, spying on dissidents, and even pursuing the potential development of biological weapons. Top AI companies and security firms regularly publish threat reports involving the technology to inform the public and their partners about potential dangers... “Our safeguards blocked many of their requests, but not all of them,” the Anthropic report said of the Yemeni weapons-development efforts.

This is the worst I've ever heard about.

No. There is no evidence for AI profitability which can support this investment.

Mathematicians vs big business. It sounds ugly.
