As Von Neumann said about Oppenheimer's performative angst over the atomic bomb:

"Some people profess guilt to claim credit for the sin."

This is a great quote. I liked it so much that I had to look up where it is from.

"Adventures of a Mathematician", by Stanislaw M. Ulam.

> The Polish-born mathematician recalls his formative and early professional years in his pre-war homeland and his work and colleagues at Princeton, Harvard, Wisconsin, and Los Alamos.

I think we should start training models to guess intentions. That's the whole game. e.g. If I dislike a particular short form video, what are the specific intentions I am conveying to the recommender system, (general category I don't like, the time at which it was shown, the combination of feed in which it came), these are all intentions I am trying to convey. In websites google analytics helps with clickstream tracking (or clickstream analysis, user journey mapping or behavioral tracking.) — the sequence of clicks and pages you move through is your clickstream, and analyzing it to infer intent. The same thing will need to happen in chatbots. Can a chatbot infer the specific instance of the problem I want to solve?

Eliezer Yudkowsky – AI Alignment: Why It's Hard, and Where to Start

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EUjc1WuyPT8

Eliezer talked about these ideas way before everyone else.

And got nowhere with them

Perhaps if someone wrote linear algebra books in Harry Potter fanfic style, Yud would have mathematical contribution for alignment research

I think at the top level between Govt and Industry and understanding has been reached that AI industry will be backstopped

But the fraction to be kept in reserve has been zero for 4-5 years.

Almost like the concept is complete bunkum.

It’s been zero in the UK for hundreds of years.

that.. doesn't make it better

It was replaced by other mechanisms. It’s not literally zero any kind of reserves.

I’m not worried about the lack of reserve, i’m worried about the money shell game where private companies can drive inflation or deflation whichever serves their profit margins best.

The 2008 global financial crisis was a result of this, so not a made up worry.

> The 2008 global financial crisis was a result of this, so not a made up worry

The GFC would not have been prevented by a reserve requirement. The problem didn't originate in the banking system, and transmission to the banking and payment systems wasn't reliant on leverage per se.

> The GFC would not have been prevented by a reserve requirement.

Who said anything about that?

> The problem didn't originate in the banking system

I guess i consider mortgage lending part of the banking system, but no matter - my point is it was created by financial institutions lending in ways that created money, helped their bottom line in the short term, and were unaccountable. That’s why i’m worried about how much of the US economy is created by private companies creating money out of thin air by loaning in loops.

With AI story telling, lot of people can tell their stories. Democratization of story telling. Earlier we just used words, now people can make others imagine the words with AI art. Honestly I want the best story to win. Anybody can be a storyteller.

Alan Watts says, "Mind finds itself in a strange position. It (ie universe) is in me (modelling wise). I am in it (physically)." But the model only has access to its modelling of both it and itself.

If self reference is universal then building something on top of ingredients from the universe will include that property. Sort of like root node properties can be found in the leaf nodes.

Why would I adapt myself to unseen environments unnecessarily?

You can see possible existing environments even if you explicitly blind yourself to them, through reflections off of environments that you do not blind yourself to. Even with the benchmark excluded, the social zeitgeist that has considered the benchmark and included it or ideas from the benchmark either implicitly or explicitly in their code, documentation, et cetera is still part of your training data.

Because then you could sit under the palm tree and enjoy your free bananas and relax.

Can React Native become a sort of Compiler which compiles to natives (Android/Apple) now that AI can help in that direction as well? I don't know much about mobile ecosystem though.

the tricky part about React Native is that you almost always need to use it with expo.

I developed React native app for ios as side project and took breaks often and came back to have to do big updates with expo to make it work again. Maybe there is smoother process, but this was annoying
