Fun story, when my ex and I split a few years ago, I wiped all connections of my Microsoft account to the machine I built him.
Last week, when I logged into my Microsoft account, I had an extra machine with a funny name. Checking some logs, sure enough that was the hostname he gave that machine. Realized what had happened, refreshed the page, and it was gone.
The URL parameter for these devices in the Microsoft Account page is the GDID. So the Microsoft Account page showed me a GDID of a device I unlinked ~4 years ago. (And I'm slightly obsessive, I check on my Google/Microsoft account every other month.) Gooood job Microsoft.
Warning. I used Airalo on advice of a friend. It worked in some Asian countries but then in Europe the sim I bought didn't work.
Turns out it's very easy to buy sims but no way to get refund OR support via site, you have to be on WhatsApp which I am not, there is no other channel.
To make things worse, it ALWAYS makes you sign in with an emailed code, and sometimes it has issues delivering this code. every time I leave the tab for a while or restart phone to try make things work, new code, and sometimes it never arrives or arrives 10 min later. trying to solve this in the moment I basically was stuck in airport arrivals for 40 min.
eventually I bought two esims from Airalo, one for specific country and another for the whole Europe including that country hopping at least the other one connects. both never connected
I don't even care about refund. just mad about wasted time and ruined arrival.
This stuff truly makes my head spin. How do these people think humanity came to be, to today? Do they understand we in historically safe times? I thought the pendulum was swinging back on helicopter parents but some adults, some HN adults, have more money and tech-bias than common sense, or self-awareness, or any awareness of what they're doing to the children. And then remarking that they get around those restrictions. DUH?! Jesus, do some people here struggle this much to remember their own childhoods???
If it bleeds, it leads. That is, our media has hyped up violence in society as it’s become more rare, and politicians use it to scare people into thinking we need to go back to the good old days.
Rather concerned that there's exactly two comments noticing this. I immediately was like "um, it's an Office 365 form, are people this gullible". EDIT: Fortunately a few more people getting it now.
This is entirely irrelevant. The problem is that anybody can make a Microsoft Form and there's no obvious indication that it's a form from Github without digging around.
The alternative is that someone managed to hijack the official GitHub social media accounts on X, TikTok, Instagram, and Threads to post this, and four hours later, no one from the official leadership has come out to call it out. I find that hard to believe. It's probably legit.
I also heavily doubt its a joke. Shipping a thousand CDs is a drop in the bucket for a company like this. The free marketing they get from this promotion more than makes up for any cost associated with doing so.
