I think we need a citation about the libertarian / capitalism thing? I know a lot of leftist engineers. Look how blue the bay area votes?


Does the Bay Area have forced integration/bussing for schools? Massive amounts of affordable housing? East Asian city levels of public transit?


I think the idea that they raise outdoor temps over a wide area is a myth spread on facebook. The physics doesn't work out.


Just adding a square kilometre of parking lots raises the surrounding temperatures measurably, so I don't see how building a datacenter that size is going to have less impact

I realize the wording in my comment was a little ambiguous, but don't worry, that's in addition to my files in general. (Restic, Backblaze B2, memorized passwords/keys, regular integrity checks of remote data.)

After all, even with godlike storage-media on my keychain, it would still be susceptible to a mugger or falling down a deep hole. Until that happens, it provides redundancy and convenience, provided I can bring it to a trustworthy computer.

docker on macos runs in a linux vm


goroutines make building scalable network (web) servers trivial and fast. I'm not a big fan of the language, but the runtime is fantastic.


Unfortunately, the subscription pricing is so much cheaper than usage pricing that it's probably worth using one of the official harnesses.
