No it just reveals that the people in charge of star trek for the past decade are incompetent and have only a passing familiarity with the franchise.

Of course it would be absurd to cast that judgement based of what could easily have just been a bad season but by this point its pretty clear that nobody running the star trek franchise actually wants to be running the star trek franchise. Thats why every new show has some bizarre cross-genre gimmick and they never try to just make a proper star trek.

Why don't we start with the animals then? It should be far easier to confer consciousness onto something which already meets the definition of "alive", has a divergent evolution path from ours, and displays many traits present in humanity such as emotion, a desire to continue its own life, and (to varying degrees) concepts of a social structure based around their immediate family members.

Of course thats not actually tenable because virtually every society anywhere on earth is predicated upon treating animals as a commodity resource in ways that are horrific even compared to some of the worst things we've done to other humans in the past.

My point here is that it is vain and narcissistic to let computer programs have rights above those of animals just because they can speak English and pretend to be your dream anime trad-waifu.

Fix the fucking animal problem before you compare my relationship to inanimate objects unfavorably against the trans-atlantic slave trade of all fucking things.

2 reasons why we don't start with animals

1. it's not consciousness we really value, it's intelligence 2. LLMs are not tasty

So what you're saying is that it's conscious as long as the guy who made it wants it to be?

I know consciousness is notoriously difficult to define or prove to anybody other than yourself but thay doesn't mean anything which a third party believes to be conscious is actually conscious.

Not really. I mean there's probably scientific study of how it works in brains and you can try copying the kind of design in software and see how it compares.

I dont prefer traditional architecture because I have high standards, I just hate all these rectangular-prism concrete stripmalls and loglo highways.

Am I supposed to feel sorry for jeff bezos' loss?

Because that's not what IP law is for. IP law was always corporate rent-seeking. None of those arguments about fairly compensating people for their creations or preserving the profit motive were ever being made in good faith. The point was always to force you to pay for something that would be free under natural laws. And I do mean you specifically, because the act of copying information freely was always going to be preserved for them.

Swartz was charged under the CFAA, like most hacking cases, and it clearly applies to the Anthropic and OpenAI cases.

It's not the IP law alone that's the problem, it's the way the legislative and justice systems work. There will always be a law and an interpretation that favor people who can afford to buy them at the cost of those who can't.

I'm disappointed they don't have a missile command clone where you have to shoot down the shaheds with your ever-dwindling stockpile of patriots before you lose every base in the Persian gulf.

If they were to make any missile command game, it would be targeting fishing boats.

nah missile command is the one where you're shooting down the missiles, despite its misleading name you're not actually in command of the missiles.

Fishing boats would be one of those old vertical-scrolling shoot-em-ups like 1942 or Raiden.

More likely to get a Prince of Persia where you go get gifted airplanes and make backroom deals to slice up Gaza for hotels

i doubt it, there are quite a few low-quality asset-flip games build around politically-incorrect memes on steam.

The most controversial one I can think of is a school shooting simulator. But I doubt it's live now.

Even if there are dark games, they are meant to be parody/satire. Certainly not done in the same spirit what the white house is doing here.

Did you find the hidden adults-only setting on Steam? I'm not making this up, it's fairly well-hidden but there's an option on steam that filters out the porn games and racist meme-games by default.

The games that it gates are probably about 95% porn and only about 5% racist but the racist games are there ("tyrone vs cops VR", "cuck simulator", "goyslop", etc). I will admit some of them do at least look funny based on how they present themselves in the trailer but they're all obviously low-quality asset-flips that would've been considered slop even before the age of modern AI.

Isn't the goal of tetris to not build the wall!?!?

EDIT: good lord this is cringe, it doesn't even clear lines when you complete them. It's impossible to not get a game-over because the screen fills up regardless of whether or not you play well.

Not that I was ever expecting quality from Donald Trump's vibecode boomer-meme slop but I thought they could at least bother to correctly implement the simplest and most recognizable video game of all time, especially since it's going on whitehouse.gov.

My reply here is just bout the one quote. I more or less agree with the sentiment of your post. But..

Isn't the goal of tetris to not build the wall!?!?

I think the point of the game tetris is to build a wall or at least could be thought of that way. Each line that you completed and moves off the bottom of the screen is a completed section of wall and the goal is to make a hole free wall for as long as you can.

After what we've learned about Billy gates in the last year im not certain that's such a good deal.
