People don't read enough great books, and bedtime stories are indeed an opportunity missed.

The whole point is to slow them down and put em to bed. So read a real book to them, whatever you like. Sets a good example to read real things, they just love the attention and to hear your voice, and they fall asleep with big words in their ears which is great for brain development.
