I think we are going to see a growing trend of communications opposite of what we've seen in the last 4 years; no more AI doomerism to avoid datacenter bans. Surly everyone is Dario's circle is telling him to keep his mouth shut.

As I've mentioned ad nauseum on HN for years yet no one listened - much of the time we as corporates in the tech industry used "AI" as an excuse for layoffs was for the same reason we used "COVID" as an explanation for layoffs before GPT4 was GAed.

The reality is, hiring severely overshot in 2021-22 with a degradation in quality. And 2-3 years of remote first showed that you can offshore with little-to-no operational impact.

Dario's messaging made sense as the underdog - which Anthropic was until a year ago. Their moat used to be FedRAMP until Emil Michael called their bluff.

Tech is insanely bloated and much of the cash flows are coming from investments made yonks ago.

What firms are going to do now is probe deeper and disinvest in crappy projects that - many that most likely generated negative returns upon closer inspection.

> What firms are going to do now is probe deeper and disinvest in crappy projects that most likely generated negative returns

We've been doing this since 2022. Most layoffs overlap with Sales, Engineering, and Ops associated with cost centers.

Like, there was no reason Uber had 3 internally competing and built chat apps with dozens of engineers allocated as headcount.

> much of the cash flows are coming from investments made yonks ago

Not necessarily, but you can't train an old dog to do new tricks.

"> much of the cash flows are coming from investments made yonks ago"

Yes they are.

The marginal ROIC for tech firms that are in mature growth is shit. Made shitter by continuing to field many people for no good reason.

What is the timeframe you are using? To me "yonks ago" means 15-20 years ago.

And marginal ROIC is just one metric amongst multiple to benchmark against.

Also, if you had the Benoit [0] you should use your normal HN account instead of a throwaway created for this topic.

In a way, but mostly because discourse on this platform has gone to shit because no one is restricting throwaways and no one is calling this out.

> Imagine thinking 'yonks ago' is 15-20 years in the technology game. Stop editing your posts bro

Give a number and the timeframe. I'm open to chatting collaboratively with you because we might be modeling differently with different priors.

But I don't like unsubstantiated hot takes being used to launder throwaway accounts - the noise to signal ratio is shit enough on HN in 2026.

I was paying $1400 a month of my GLP-1 (on top of the $2400 monthly health insurance premium). I eventually just bought a batch from a reputable online compounding pharmacy for a very small fraction of that (about 12 months of meds at a time), and send one of the vials in for testing at a mass spectrometer for about $500.

I've been given a sheet of prices for self-pay in the U.S. and they range from $150 to $350 for the lower doses (the oral versions are $150, the injections $300 and $350). These are not online prices, just local pharmacy prices.

Would you mind sharing the online pharmacy and the testing facility you used?

I've been wary of using online pharmacies due to concerns with knowing what's legitimate and what's not, so maybe a recommendation would help.

If you don't want to share publicly, can you put you contact info in your profile and I'll reach out to you?

I thought they closed whatever loophole that let compounding pharmacies do GLP1s, but I suppose online there are ways around that.

Amazon Pharmacy sells name brand GLP-1s (Ozempic, Wegovy, Zepbound, etc) for $250-400/month without insurance.

Yeah, Eli Lilly is selling Zepbound direct to consumer for roughly the same price too (with a prescription, obviously). People should generally avoid compounding pharmacies unless they have a specific need, many are not based in the US and not subject to the same regulatory standards as manufacturers (either generic or brand name).

Yep, check out lillydirect. Relative of mine barely missed the cutoff for insurance coverage (in terms of starting BMI) but lillydirect will sell you actual zepbound for something like $399/month. The cost is also reimbursable with an HSA if you have one.

You do need a prescription, but generally most physicians will write you one if you are overweight even if you don't meet the high bar for insurance coverage.

You make some fair points, but it’s also worth some self-reflection as an HOA president to understand why so many people resent these institutions. I’ve given two HOAs an honest try, and both ended up reinforcing the same patterns of pettiness and overreach that give them their reputation. The structure itself seems to attract a small group exerting outsized control over others’ property. Hopefully, over time, communities can move toward simpler, more democratic systems that preserve shared spaces without breeding unnecessary conflict.

How many liters of water does loading this webpage use?

Just delete your old emails to balance it off.

Tried that but it's still not raining

Do you mean nick sim or HN?

I always thought there was a tremendous irony in Germany’s far left heavily protesting Tesla for Elon’s speech while their own corporate giant committed widespread emissions fraud for years

These are two issues independent of each other.

One argument doesn't make the other in any way worse or better

I'm a German, I was not aware that VW was doing this until it came out and it was a huge blow out.

Do you think people just test their cars fume output?! You do understand that the software was build to detect being on a test stand right?

Who reverse engineers software like this...

The Scandal was big in Germany and contrary to complaints about Musk there was quite a lot legal action against VW (while law has some restrictions preventing huge damage claims as in the US) so I don't really understand the comparison.

Why is this irony? One is being done out in the open and the other was unknown for years, so unless "the far left" knew about the defeat devices, this is a false dichotomy.

Its a false dichotomy either way because VW and the handling of the administration back then was heavily criticized by many parties, including left leaning parties like the greens

I don't understand. It's not like the far left is Volkswagen's fan club?

Elon campaigned for the German far right party which basically everyone including Germans conservative party regards as fascist. It's not a far left thing to oppose that

There were multiple protests in 2016.

They protest every time a company fucks up like that.

Paper dollars are a common store of value in emerging markets. Trading digital dollars for paper dollars, is becoming as common as paper foreign exchange

You likely have 90% of your wealth directly tied to the success of the US. Politically unpredictable and divided, larger deficits than ever, persistent inflation, trillion dollar DOD budget while most under the age of 35 are burdened with huge education debt, unaffordable housing & healthcare, and failing infrastructure and systems.

US assets aren't becoming more valuable, the dollar is losing purchasing power. Bitcoin is a hedge that the US won't maintain it's dominance and growth trajectory of the last 30 years.

Congrats, to YC. The world is full of people who will discount the success of Brian and , but in just a few short years he's created one of the world's largest financial institutions.

In line with the ethos of crypto? No, not at all, but a bridge has been made between the old world and the new. This IPO will load the coffers of some of the most innovative VCs, engineers, and people who took the risk of investing in, and working at Coinbase.

This is disputed by the bitcoin community and likely just typical BTC FUD: https://twitter.com/aantonop/status/1352239314587983873?s=19

"Yesterday both Bitcoin.org and Bitcoincore.org received allegations of copyright infringement of the Bitcoin whitepaper by lawyers representing Craig Steven Wright. In this letter, they claim Craig owns the copyright to the paper, the Bitcoin name, and ownership of bitcoin.org. They also claim he is Satoshi Nakamoto, the pseudonymous creator of Bitcoin, and the original owner of bitcoin.org. Bitcoin.org and Bitcoincore.org were both asked to take down the whitepaper."

> In this letter, they claim Craig owns the copyright to the paper, the Bitcoin name, and ownership of bitcoin.org.

Isn't that basically asking for a lawsuit in the format of "Prove that you are Satoshi or be charged with perjury" ? Why is CSW still able to play these tricks?

Yes it is. He is wanting to get into a situation where he can provide proof in a legal setting so that any outcome can be used in other legal battles.

Because the cost of the lawsuit would still be carried by these open source volunteers.
