Both are organizations, and we are deep enough into capitalism at this point, that we measure every organization by how it would fare as a corporation. This isn't necessarily bad, but only one way to look at it.

As a person who considers themselves democratic, I think every citizen should be an equal shareholder in government Inc. And maybe things would be a bit better if the have-nots were bigger shareholders in other corporations, too.
